The National Enquirer has disclosed that President Bush's drinking problem has once again raised its ugly head - full article can be found here.
Apparently the concern is that Bush has admitted to having a drinking problem in the past. Was arrested in 1976 (almost 30 yrs ago) on a DUI and is now drinking shots of whiskey behind his wifes back. Right after his 40th birthday, in 1986, he swore off of alcohol "because it started to compete with his energy". Bush is a rather healthy man and just might be the healthiest president we've ever had. He stands 6 ft tall, weighs 186 and has 14% body fat. He watches his calories, runs most every day and eats right. His resting heart rate is the envy of most 20 yr olds at 44 beats per minute.
Now before you dismiss this story I want you to realize that regardless of how you feel about the National Enquirer it is as reliable of a news source as mainstream media and has an accuracy rate that is higher than USA Today. Yes they tackle mostly tacky and sordid subjects and use rather large headlines that might not be exactly accurate but the accuracy of the story inside is rather remarkable. The reason they are so accurate is because a human army of fact-checkers and editors labor over it every week.
All I have to say is that after being responsible for sending hundreds of fellow Americans to their deaths in Iraq and watching the devistation of Hurricane Katrina all but wipe New Orleans and it's population off the face of the earth what I'm wondering is "what took him so long?"
I would've so crawled into that whisky bottle a long time ago. What he is having to deal with, right now, sure makes my life feel insignificant.
