If I go to sleep at 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. then I will wake up at 3 or 4 a.m. wide ass awake. Usually I get up and do housework or get on the computer and write code (for work) or build websites. So sometimes at work, during lunch, I take a nap in the backseat of my Yukon. I suffer from insomnia, bad insomnia, bad, bad insomnia. Yesterday was one of those 3 am days so I wandered out to my truck to take a 30-min nap at about 12:30 and had the weirdest dream (I love taking naps on leather seats). Because of the nature of our business our building and parking lots are secured. Like Fort Knox, lock-down, secured as you need a coded card to access the parking lot gates and all areas of the building. Based on your security level, you can access the parking lots and certain areas of the building. The more security clearance you have, the more you can access – I can access everything except the men’s bathroom and I’m pretty sure I don’t want to wander in there (yeah, we need our access cards to get in the bathroom so don’t forget yours). So back to my nap – I usually park in the visitor’s parking lot, which has a coded gate between it and the street and a pedestrian gate between it and the employee parking lot which is located in front of the building. The employee parking lot also has a coded gate between it and the street. I park in the visitor’s parking lot simply for the exercise because it is the furthest from the building. Now a lot of our employees park in the visitor’s parking lot (we don’t get many visitors) so the pedestrian gate is always left opened. In the five years I have worked in this building I have had to swipe my card a total of 3 or 4 times at the pedestrian gate. The employees just kick the gate all the way open when they walk through it and it stays that way. The gate has been open every time I have walked through it since I returned from maternity leave back in September. Yesterday I was taking my nap and dreamt that I overslept and that when I woke up I ran across the parking lot (impossible with my torn ACL), grabbed the chain link gate with my left hand and slammed it shut behind me, then I woke up. Actually I woke up with the distinct feeling that I had actually heard the gate slam shut. I looked around, had a clear view of the parking lot and the walkway up to the building and didn’t see anyone. From where I park, I can’t see the gate as there are several big trucks that park between me and it (hey, give me a break, I live in Texas) but can see the sidewalk up to the building and most of the visitor’s parking lot. Usually I fix my makeup and hair, while looking around, before I leave the truck. I don’t want anyone to see that I’ve crawled in the backseat of my Yukon to take nap (they would come knock on the door during my nap if they though I was in there). I looked around the whole time I was checking my hair and fixing the ole makeup and there wasn’t a soul around. So I unlocked the truck, climbed out, and proceeded to walk though all the other trucks to the pedestrian gate – imagine how freaked out I was when I got to the pedestrian gate and it was shut. I was kinda like Whoa!!!!! Because of the nature of the business, we report to work at 7 am and most of our employees take lunch at 11 or 11:30 at the latest so I went to my truck at noon-thirty and woke up at 1:10. I still have the distinct feeling that somehow I shut the gate during my sleep and that creeps me out!
