Homer D

About 4 yrs ago we adopted a puppy from the SPCA.  Well, actually he was about 2 yrs old so just past the puppy stage.  Here is Homer D.

We had a "critter sitter" once and she said that she thought he was a Boxer/Yellow Lab mix.  His head and ears certainly look like a lab but he has the white markings of a boxer and the body as well.  He is a pretty large dog and weighs about 87 lbs and is not fat at all.  Loves, loves, loves water and will just bale off in a pool or pond or even a puddle if he gets half a chance.  His looks do remind me of the Catahoula we owned when I was growing up and Mr. H thinks that he might belong to a breed of dogs called Cur.

He is a very good dog and apparently whomever had him before took the time to either train him or have him trained.  He is very intelligent and so far we have only had to go over something 3 times with him and he is trained.  We take him to the farm with us and he gets to roam all 200 acres.  He doesn't chase the cows and when you whistle he comes running from where he is exploring.  The only negative thing we have noticed is that he is afraid of guns and thunder so we just don't take him hunting and keep him in the house when there is a thunderstorm in the area.  Little Magpie loves him and he lets her crawl all over him and chew on his tail.
