While visiting with my parental units at Christmas my mom said that it was tough cooking for just two people. They recently moved far, far away not really, just 78 miles away. Which might as well be in another state due to the fact that I have an almost 20 yr old – battling demons/drugs, a 14 yr old in school and on a swim team and a 7 month old as well as working outside the home. Anyway, this got my little brain cells working overtime - have I mentioned lately that I’m OCD? I started obsessing that maybe they weren’t eating right and since we all live here and they live somewhere else it really concerned me. So for the last couple of weeks, when I cook dinner, I make too much on propose instead of on accident like I usually do (or at least that’s what I’m telling myself) then I just package up the leftovers into single servings with my cool foodsaver vacuum system. I mark the outside of the packages with the date, what the frozen stuff is and heating instructions. When I took them to my mom this last weekend, she started crying because she thought it was soooooo sweet. We gave some to my 93 yr old grandma as she lives by herself and cooking meals for one sucks even more.

Actually this is really cool because the foodsaver has been relegated to the garage due to the fact that we now have an icemaker out there and need it to close up the bags of ice when we bag them. This is a big, industrial sized icemaker and we can get about 25 bags out of it or several 150 gallon ice chest’s full. Whoo hoo, we have Sonic ice, only the best kind in the world. So, anyway, I’m really excited that the foodsaver is getting utilized for something other than ice (kinda lets me justify buying it). Oh, yeah, our electric bill went up and hubby tried to blame it on acquisition of Dragon Lizard and the necessary lighting elements in his space. We’ve had lizard for 1 ½ yrs now, ya think that caused the bill to go up or the ice maker that we put in the garage????? My money’s on the icemaker.
