Real Quick - have a margaRITA party to go to
Today is my 41st birthday and I jotted down the following while in a "Rita Rally" meeting here at work Looks like we will be having a margaRITA party here at work this weekend. Will be back to check comments later.
I was born in 1964 and this is what I remember from my youth:
- Pong – Two paddles, one ball, no way to unlock hot sex scenes
- Starskey & Hutch poster on my wall
- Every kid on the block had a bike and every kid rode them
- Toy trucks diecast out of metal
- Seatbelts? Those are to wack your pesky brother with
- Hot wheels and not Grand Theft Auto
- Drinking milk for dinner until your parents considered you old enough to drink Tea
- Chico and the Man and crying when Freddie Prinze committed suicide
- Playing outside until it was too dark to see
- 1 television in the house and not 1 in every room
- Having to taking my turn – turning the handle on the ice cream maker
- Saturday morning cartoons – “Shhhhhh, I’m huntin that pesky wabbit”
- Singing “Horse with No Name”
- “Church” clothes were different from everyday clothes
- French provincial furniture
- Tie-dying T-shirts in Art class
- Strobe lights at the skating rink
- Tony Orlando & Dawn (& Dawn, & Dawn)
- Watermelon seed spitting contest almost every night in the late summer
- Going out to eat was a special treat saved for birthdays.
- My dad building us a tree house and I got to hold the nails
- Hearing “Just you wait until your Dad gets home” meant you were in BIG trouble.
- Vinny Barbarino
- Barbie was still with Ken and didn’t yet realize that she could be with Brenda too
- Rock tumblers
- Dressing up for Halloween with whatever costumes you could make up from items around your house
- Gummy coke bottles that tasted like coke
- Riding down the highway in the back of the pickup with about 10 other kids
- The Carpenters
- Listening to Bill Cosby’s comedy on the record player – sans nasty words
- CB handles
- Koolaid instead of colas
- No one you knew one had a computer and the internet hadn’t been invented yet
BTW - Mr. H is STILL running a fever (20 days now). Blood work came back fine - had an X-Ray late yesterday afternoon and we are waiting on the Dr. to call us. He has stopped the Antiboitics because they apparently aren't doing any good - Ya Think?
